Wiggles

UNICEF Australia and The Wiggles would like to invite your school to celebrate UNICEF Day for Change on Universal Children’s Day, 27 October 2010. Join schools around Australia and support UNICEF Day for Change by getting involved in a fun and educational event at your school. Dedicate this day to the theme of 'change' by changing something - your clothes, your classes or your day's activities - and donate your spare change to help improve education for other children in Mozambique. Find out more at:

BACKGROUND

UNICEF’s Day for Change provides an opportunity for students to learn about UNICEF’s work, as well as providing a starting point to compare and contrast their own lives with those of children in other countries and to gain an understanding of the underlying similarities between their own interests and aspirations and of other children of their own ages.

UNICEF’s Day for Change dates back to 1989, when a teacher in Merseyside (UK) organised a fundraising day for UNICEF. Since then, UNICEF has organised an annual school fundraising event, based on this success, called Day for Change.  Today, Day for Change has become a national event in which more than 4,000 schools take part around the UK.

Through the co-operation of UNICEF (Aust), NSW Teachers Federation and the NSW Department of Education and Training a similar event is to be conducted in NSW public schools on Wednesday 27 October 2010.

In 2010, all funds raised through UNICEF Day for Change will go towards supporting UNICEF’s Child-Friendly Schools project in Mozambique where more than 650,000 children still don’t get the chance to go to school
