UNICEF's DAY FOR CHANGE

October 22 2008

Supported by NSW Department of Education, UNICEF (Aust) and NSW Teachers Federation
BACKGROUND

UNICEF’s Day for Change provides an opportunity for students to learn about UNICEF’s work, as well as providing a starting point to compare and contrast their own lives with those of children in other countries and to gain an understanding of the underlying similarities between their own interests and aspirations and of other children of their own ages.

UNICEF’s Day for Change dates back to 1989, when a teacher in Merseyside (UK) organised a fundraising day for UNICEF. Since then, UNICEF has organised an annual school fundraising event, based on this success, called Day for Change.  Today, Day for Change has become a national event in which more than 4,000 schools take part around the UK.

Through the co-operation of UNICEF (Aust), NSW Teachers Federation and the NSW Department of Education and Training a similar event is to be conducted in NSW public schools on October 22 2008.
