Reporting to parents

Reporting Requirements

  • Parents will have formal and informal opportunities to receive information about and discuss their child’s learning.
  • Procedures for reporting to parents will be based on Department’s policy, will be time efficient and manageable, and will be developed in consultation with teachers and parents/caregivers.
  • Written reports will be provided for parents at least twice per year.
  • Information on how a child’s achievement compares with the child’s peer group at the school will be available to parents upon request. This information will show you the number of children in the group in each of the achievements levels.
  • Reports from state-wide testing programs will be disseminated to parents.

Written reports will:

  • use plain language.
  • provide information on a student’s learning in each of the key learning areas or subjects.
  • compare a student’s achievement against state-wide syllabus standards using an A-E scale or equivalent word descriptions.
  • have teacher comments that identify areas of student strength and areas that require further development.
  • record student attendance at school.
  • show student achievement in relation to school programs that extend, or are additional to, syllabus requirements.
  • record students’ social development and commitment to learning.
