Role of Literacy and Numeracy Leaders
Literacy and numeracy leaders will be exceptional teachers who will be given additional time to undertake this role.
They will provide expert leadership and direct support to their school or to clusters of schools:
- to implement school actions described in the State Literacy and Numeracy Plans;
- to build teacher capacity and expertise in the diagnosis of student literacy and numeracy learning needs; and
- to use explicit teaching strategies in literacy and numeracy teaching.
The Literacy and Numeracy Leaders will work with Regional teams to direct their support to areas of greatest need measured in terms of student achievement and to support newly appointed teachers develop their skill and confidence.
They will aid the promotion and delivery of state-wide consistent messages about literacy and numeracy requirements.
