Understanding moderation
Moderation is a process which ‘involves educators in a collaborative discussion of student work based on predetermined assessment criteria’. The benefits of successful moderation include:
- A better understanding of assessment
- Knowing what constitutes a good assessment task
- Understanding how to assess based on the criteria of the task
- Being able to assess to a standards framework
- Appreciating why it is important to have a good understanding of the syllabus(es)
